About this Activity

The Chimpanzee Habituation Experience (CHEX) is an immersive, all-day conservation program in Kibale National Park. Unlike standard tracking, which visits already "tame" chimps, CHEX involves following a community of chimpanzees that are still undergoing the habituation process (learning to tolerate human presence).

You join a team of Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) researchers and trackers as they head into the forest at dawn to find the chimps' nesting site. You spend the day observing their full daily cycle—from waking up and foraging to socializing, hunting, and eventually building new nests for the night. This is a rare, behind-the-scenes look at primate research and wild behavior.
